“A man, doubtful of his dinner is not much disposed to abstracted meditation, or remote enquiries.” Samuel Johnson
Should you choose to attend a “Connect with Horses” Personal Empowerment through Mindfulness Meditation Workshop, you will find that at Les Sources Sacrées, the food is simple but honest and that we aim to give your digestive tract as much of a rest as the rest of you while feeding your body as well and as generously as your mind. This is most definitely not a detox retreat, but rather a celebration of the wonderful variety of fresh local produce available from our garden as well as from the local weekly fresh food markets. This region is known for its abundant gourmet cuisine and we would not dream of depriving our guests of the pleasure and benefits that can be had. Even the wine of the region is reputed to have healing and anti-ageing properties (see Prof Roger Corder’s book The Red Wine Diet) and the people of the region live some of the longest and healthiest lives in Europe.
Our aim is to make you think about what and the way you eat in a completely different, mindful way…
Breakfast consists of fresh bread and home-made confitures, either from fruit of our own orchard or from the fruit of our friends’ and neighbours’ trees. There is also fresh fruit on the table and rich, creamy, live yoghourt. We DO serve freshly ground coffee (this is France after all) as well as a range of teas and tisanes, often made from herbs freshly picked in the garden or meadows. Our main meal is at lunch time and mostly features some of the food our region is famous for : our speciality is one-pot-or-pan-dishes like an original Gascon Paella (our best paella recipe), a mouth-watering Salade chaude au Gesiers or a Ratatouille au Couscous, to name a few…all these served with a wine from the region specifically chosen by your host to compliment the dish. We also cater for vegetarians but not for vegans. Dinner is simple but tasty too, we often have a wholesome soup (hot or cold) ready, with crusty bread and some of the best mountain cheeses, to make sure you do not leave the table hungry. At every meal and throughout the day, guests can drink pure water from our springs.
“A good dinner is of great importance to good talk. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” Virginia Woolf
It really would be impossible to run any kind of deprivation diet retreat amidst the abundance of fresh food bursting with flavour in this region know for its irresistibly scrumptious food and exceptional wine, and controversially, for the excellent health and longevity of its inhabitants. On this retreat, you will be sampling some of its most famous delicacies, as well as some of its most popular wines while you feed your body as well as your mind. As is the French way, we do not encourage eating between meals, but tea and tisanes are available at all hours.
