Equine-facilitated Mindfulness and Equine-guided Meditation Course

If you have been thinking seriously about training as an Equine-assisted Coach/Counsellor/Consultant/Psychotherapist, in other words, someone who makes a transformational difference to his/her clients’ lives, aided and abetted by one or more horses, then I wrote this page for YOU.

I have been working in this field for 17 years. I am a medical doctor. I worked for many years in Psychiatry and later in General Practice, before I changed careers mid-flight to become first an Equine-assisted Psychotherapist and now an Equine-assisted Coach and Mentor. I am also a Medical Hypnotherapist, a Master NLP practitioner, a certified Counsellor, and a Life Transitions Coach and Mentor.

Not a week goes by that I do not find an e-mail in my inbox from someone who is interested in doing the same work as I do, and asks if I would share my knowledge and experience. So during the pandemic, when I had time on my hands, I created a hands-on course that offers training in my area of expertise.

My expertise lies in Equine-facilitated Mindfulness and Equine-guided Meditation. I have been hosting stress management retreats using mindfulness and meditation at my house here in the south of France, with my Friesian horses, for neigh – I mean nigh – on 12 years. So it makes sense to share the extensive amount of knowledge and experience that I have been hugely privileged to amass with those who are drawn to working with horses to change people’s lives – dramatically.

You can probably tell that I am profoundly passionate about what I do. It’s my life’s work, my raison d’etre, the reason I jump out of bed every morning (except in the winter!) Throughout my career, I have concentrated on helping, first patients and now clients, with stress management. The guests who come here to work with my herd, leave with their lives changed completely, as these 100% authentic reviews show:

I really needed the time to find myself again. After a few days there I started sleeping better, I feel more relaxed and I am dealing with my pain in a better way. Margarita was the best, she’s extremely accurate in what she does, great instincts. Definitely an experience that we should all have. Now I want to take my friend as well. I cannot express in here how much I learned about me and how to handle situations in my job. L Ramirez

Thank you so much for allowing me into your home for the last few days. Your kindness, patience and generosity have touched me deeply. The time that Belle, Aurore and Tess let me spend with them and the lessons they taught me have been truly healing and extremely cathartic. You have created something really unique and magical here and I am in awe of the power of it. May it always bring you as much peace and fulfillment as it did me. With deep gratitude, A Campbell

Before you read further, I need to make one thing clear: My course is not a certification course that will magically enable you to start working as an equine-assisted coach/therapist in 5/7-days. It took me 3 years to train as an equine-assisted psychotherapist with EAGALA, and at least another 2 years of practical experience before I considered myself good enough to truly make a difference to other people’s lives.

Having said that, if you have experience of horses, my course will enable you to start teaching mindfulness and meditation facilitated by horses as soon as you have finished the course. If you do not have horse experience, I suggest you work together with an experienced horseman/woman. As an effective stress management method, this course has a very wide application.

How does it work? You come and stay here with us in the south of France for 5/7 days, or for a more extensive apprenticeship of 14 days. While you are here, you first discover equine-assisted mindfulness and meditation as a student, and then as a teacher. I mostly teach this course one-on-one, the maximum number of students I accept at any one time is 3. The cost of the course depends on its duration and includes your accommodation, all your course materials, and brunch and dinner each day.

At the end of this course, you will receive a certificate of completion, as well as 1-3 CEU’s, depending on the length of your course, but these are not accredited and are awarded purely on the time spent learning my method: 10h of tuition = 1 CEU etc.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, if you would like to know more about the practicalities of attending a course here, please send an email to MargarethaMontagu(at)gmail.com, mentioning when and for how long you would like to stay.
